about

Honduran synthesist and producer Wilmer Murillo aka Almanacs returns to Mystery Circles with his new single “My Island”, an extended piece that he describes as “an introspective journey into the subconscious, seeking to explore everything from chaos and confusion to inner peace and gratitude.” A lot has happened with our friend in the past year or so - most notably his move to Santiago, Chile. The adjustment that comes with such an impactful life change inspired a wide range of emotions, and with this piece the goal was to explore and reflect on all of them - the good, the bad, and the in-between. To “slow the mind and spirit down to the pace of my synthesizer sounds.”

A steady rhythmic pulse sets the stage, injecting the first half of “My Island” with his trademark ability to encapsulate his environment and heritage in sonic form. Wonderfully meandering lead synths steadily begin to layer in, solidifying the feeling that this music represents his journey. As the pulse slowly dials down, the track seamlessly transforms into a beautiful soundscape - clear, dreamlike and epic drones define something new for the artist - Wilmer has always made ambient music, but to me, this sounds like a new-found clarity, a representation of the inner peace and gratitude he is finding in his new life and surroundings.
